The $15 million funding announcement for the National Emergency Grant made on June 2nd was the first step in the process of implementing this program for transitioning aerospace workers. The grant will allow Brevard Workforce and our partners to continue the work we are already doing to help aerospace workers transition into new employment when the Shuttle and Constellation programs end.
Even though the announcement that the funds will be awarded to Brevard Workforce was made, there are several steps the workforce board must complete before fully implementing the programs and services provided through the grant. We currently anticipate the funds will be delivered sometime in July 2010.
The NEG funds will provide increased support staff and training opportunities while allowing continued delivery of services including orientations and workshops. In addition, the grant will create on the job training (OJT) opportunities with area businesses from Brevard and counties from the surrounding Central Florida Region. These OJT opportunities will be geared toward eventual long-term employment for the transitioning aerospace workers thus aiding the region’s aggressive economic development effort to help create and sustain jobs.
Until the program is completely approved and the funds delivered to Brevard Workforce, we recommend interested AWT participants do the following:
Aerospace Workers – Please register at both www.employflorida.com and with the AWT Program by clicking here. These are two separate registrations on two separate web sites. Review the offerings under Workshops & Seminars, then register for the topic and dates which suit your needs.
These limited-seating workshops cover topics including training/scholarship assistance, civilian and government resumes, interviewing, and creating an overall change management plan. Attending the workshops is the best way to determine what might be available to you regarding training and other services.
Check back on www.launchnewcareers.com regularly to learn if new information has been added.
Businesses – Please review the information under the “How Can Business Help?” option.
“Across the Region” and “News Room” selections also provide valuable information and resources.
The team at Brevard Workforce is working hard to have this program fully operational as quickly as possible. In the meantime, please be patient with us as we gear up to serve this important segment of our workforce as quickly as we can.
